Do you have a passion for community banding and would like to assist brass and concert bands to develop their skills and organisations?
Then why not nominate to be a member of the Queensland Band Association. Interested people from anywhere in the state can be nominated by two affiliated organisations – distance is no barrier.
Meetings are held monthly on the second Saturday of the month at a time that is convenient for the majority of committee members. All executive positions are open for election including: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Registrar. There are 6 committee member positions available. Become involved in hosting state and national championships, youth band camps, conducting and drum majoring workshops and promoting banding to your community.
In order for the QBA to foster growth in community banding and continue to host State and National Championships, Qld Youth Band, Workshops for conducting and drum majoring etc, we require committed and interested people to become members of the management committee. Our constitution allows for eleven (11) committee members including Executive Members, so there are always 6 positions available on the committee each year. You do not have to be a member of an affiliated band to nominate.
Nomination Forms are due in the Secretary’s hands by Saturday 25 July. They require a nominating association and a seconding association – affiliated with the QBA.
Proxy Forms are due by 1 August. The AGM cannot be held without a quorum of 50% + 1 of our affiliated bands, so please make sure you send a Proxy through to your QBA delegate.
Distance is no barrier to becoming a member of the QBA as the current Vice President, Jason Curtis has been a member of the QBA since 2016. Jason lives in Townsville and attends all meetings via phone conference or Microsoft Teams.
Meetings are held on every second Saturday of the month usually from 2:30-4:30pm dependent on banding events.
Each member of committee is encouraged to take on an area of ‘responsibility’ which aligns with their expertise or interest. This helps to spread the workload of the association.
The QBA committee are the hosts of State and National Championships and play an integral role in the running of the event. All members give of their time voluntarily to support the running of these important events.
The QBA is affiliated with the National Band Council of Australia and President, Annette Ries - our NBCA Delegate, works closely with the NBCA on developing community banding throughout Australia.
The 2020 QBA Annual General Meeting will be held at the Windsor School of Arts (upstairs) Saturday 8th August 2020, at 11am.
