Sunnybank Brass  -  Mick and Pam Preston  - QBA 25 Year Long Service Medal

Pam Preston began playing in 1960 with Beenleigh District and Citizens Band.  She was then transferred to Canberra with her job and joined Queanbeyan Municipal Band in 1970.  In that era Pam was the first female member of the band playing Euphonium beside esteemed players such as Joe Cook and Peter Robertson – both multiple Australian Champions.

Pam met Mick Preston while playing with this band and they married soon after.  When Mick was transferred back to Brisbane in 1983 they rejoined Beenleigh Brass for a short time and then joined the ranks of South Brisbane Federal Band in 1985.  Both Mick and Pam played with ‘The Feds’ for the next thirteen years. 

In 1998, Mick and Pam joined Sunnybank Brass and have been valued members of the band.  Mick is presently working up north but will be rejoining the band when he returns after Easter.

Congratulations from the members of Sunnybank Brass, South Brisbane Federal Band, Beenleigh Brass and Queanbeyan Municipal on the recognition of their valued contribution to brass banding.

Beenleigh Cane Festival Parade.
 
DATE: Saturday May 29th 2010    TIME: MIDDAY
 
All Bands are invited to be part of one of the last street parades in Australia. For many years the parade and Charity fund Raising Committee has been very successful with many smaller organisations benefiting from the funds raised. With the street parade finishing at the showgrounds the FREE family day has also seen crowds in excess of 3000 people. The festival will pay all approved band's expenses.
